This beginning undulation is similar to a traditional yoga pose. It's different though, because the focus is changed from how much range can be achieved to how smoothly the movement can flow through the spine. Mindfulness is brought to each step of the movement to bring fluidity to the discs between every vertebrae.

Could undulation help with a whiplash neck injury ?
Treatment of whiplash should be overseen by qualified health care professionals, but, yes, undulations can be a helpful therapeutic exercise. It's important to lubricate and strengthen the entire spine so that the neck more mobile than the rest of the spine.
Cat-Cow is a useful undulation, but so are many others including Relax & Flow, Snake Arms, Slow Motion, and Barber Pole.
Correction . . . It's important to lubricate and strengthen the entire spine so that the neck is not more mobile than the rest of the spine.
